These lovely little turtles live in the Guadalupe, San Marcos, and San Antonio river systems of Texas. They are quite small, with males up to only 4″ long and females up to 7″. They are protected in Texas where they are designated a Threatened Species. This watercolor and ink painting was commissioned by The Nature Conservancy for a brochure featuring several threatened species in the U.S.
