Quick outdoor watercolor sketches are easy at high altitudes where the air is dry and the paint layers dry quickly. This was the last of several paintings I made in one wonderful day of roaming the mountains above Boulder. It’s one of my all-time favorite paintings for its crispness, simplicity, accuracy of color, and the pleasure I find in the colors of snowfields in shadow. The reproduction is the same size as the original, which was on a very portable 6×9″ Arches watercolor pad that fits nicely in my little day-hiking lumbar pack.
