Whale Watching with Kate the Naturalist
Kate is a guide and naturalist on whale watching boat tours in some spectacular locations. At home in Monterey, California, she is one of the principal naturalists for Monterey Bay Whale Watch, the only company that sends every boat out with a professional marine biologist/naturalist. During summers in Southeast Alaska, Kate has guided whale watches with Orca Enterprises on their purple jet-boat fleet. She has seen Southern Right Whales in Peninsula Valdes, Argentina and Blue Whales and Killer Whales near Chiloe Sound in Southern Chile while working as the naturalist on Cape Horn Cruises. After eight years watching Gray Whales migrating past Monterey, she followed them to a pristine desert inlet where they breed, in Laguna San Ignacio, Baja California Sur, Mexico. There she was a guide with Baja Discovery’s wonderful, temporary whale-watching camp. It’s incredible to see whales all over the world but Monterey Bay is incredibly rich and accessible. Here’s a sample of some of what Monterey whale watchers can hope to see.
